UN Security Council extends UNISFA mandate in Abyei, Sudan welcomes

NEW YORK, 12th May, 2016 (WAM)–The UN Security Council today extended for six months the mandate of United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), a disputed area bordering Sudan and South Sudan.

It added that there were positive developments reported by the two countries on the border security that contributed to the improvement of ties.

Sudanese Ambassador to the UN, Omer Dahab Fadul, welcomed the UN Security Council’s resolution, citing the positive role of the UN force in Abyie.
