UAEBBY concludes successful participation in 33rd International IBBY Congress General August 30, 20120 Sharjah: The UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) has concluded their highly successful participation in the 33rd International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) conference, which was held in London between the 23rd and 26th of August. The seven-member delegation of the UAEBBY was headed by UAEBBY President, Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, who commented, “One of the most important functions of the UAEBBY is its role as a point of contact between the role players in the field of local youth and children’s literature and the greater publishing community. We are extremely pleased to have been able to make use of this opportunity to explore ways in which our know-how and expertise can benefit other parties who share our passion for ensuring that all children may know the joy of reading, as well as accessing the valuable information, expertise, and viewpoints of others in this field.” She added that the UAEBBY met with several other delegations during the conference and that many mutually beneficial discussions and deliberations were undertaken. A meeting of the Sharjah IBBY Fund was also organised to discuss its three major projects for the Middle Eastern region and beyond in conjunction with the UAEBBY’s participation at the IBBY congress. The meeting was held to discuss the upcoming projects to be undertaken by the Fund, project selection, its long-term objectives and the budgetary allocations to be made for each venture. The four-day conference was organised to bring together IBBY’s 77 national chapters from across the globe with the aim to discuss effective future strategies to increase the quality of printing and translation, to pave the way towards greater access to children’s books, and devise policies to encourage their authorship in their respective countries.
