The United Arab Emirates is the largest export market for US goods in the Middle East with total trade reaching AED 91 billion in 2012, a 100% increase from AED 44 billion in 2009. Amongst US States, California is the UAE’s 3rd largest trade partner, with exports from the State totaling AED 6.6 billion in 2012.
Al Nowais added that “While the UAE continues to be America’s largest export market in the Middle East, we have seen a steady increase in exports from the UAE to the US. We will continue working with the UAE private sector to explore new opportunities in trade and commerce that the US has to offer.” The Delegation also met with Los Angeles based private companies in the technology, clean energy, transportation, logistics, and manufacturing industry. The Los Angeles Clean Tech incubator hosted the delegation for a visit to experience first hand American innovation from over 15 different companies operating in the renewable energy sector. The Delegation also met with executives from the film industry and discussed potential opportunities in the UAE and the access that their companies can gain to the wider Middle East Market through the UAE.
The Delegation spent the second week in the Northern California cities of San Francisco and Sacramento. They attended “RSA 2013” a global cyber security conference, which took place from February 25th – March 1st. Al Nowais also took part in a panel discussion on tourism in the UAE hosted by the US-UAE Business Council. The panel featured representatives from Emirates Airlines, Jumeirah Hotels, and the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.
Al Nowais was joined by Dr. Alsaghira Al Ahbabi from the UAE Embassy and traveled to Sacramento to hold meetings with state government officials, address local high school students interested in international affairs, and to attend a World Affairs Council of Northern California event focused on the U.A.E. Al Nowais and Al Ahbabi delivered remarks at the World Affairs Council on understanding business, culture, and politics in the United Arab Emirates.
