LONDON, 28th October, 2016 (WAM) — The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday participated in a meeting of the board of WeProtect Global Alliance, to discuss preparations for the first summit of the alliance scheduled for late 2017.
WeProtect Global Alliance is the international movement dedicated to end the sexual exploitation of children online and the UAE is member of the board.
A delegation from the Ministry of Interior representing the UAE highlighted the country’s efforts in protecting children in its current role as the chair of the Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT), an international alliance of law enforcement agencies working together to prevent and deter online child abuse, and a member of the WeProtect.
Chair of the WeProtect International Advisory Board Ernie Allen praised the UAE for organising the 2015 summit in Abu Dhabi as part of efforts to protect children from online exploitation.
At the 2017 summit, the WeProtect alliance will build on the momentum created by its first two summits held in London and Abu Dhabi, as well as the long-standing work of the Global Alliance.
WeProtect is led by a multi-stakeholder board, comprising representatives from key countries, international and civil society organisations, and the technology industry.
