UAE participates in ‘Knowledge for Development: Global Partnership Conference’ in Geneva

GENEVA, — The UAE has participated in the Knowledge for Development: Global Partnership Conference 2017, organised by the Joint Inspection and Knowledge Management Unit of the United Nations System, JIU, in Geneva. The conference aims to review and promote the work of the JIU in sustainable development and assess a new agenda for the promotion of knowledge in societies and economies for development.

During a keynote speech at the conference, Ambassador Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, Permanent Representative of the UAE to United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva, expressed his appreciation of the JIU for organising the conference and commended the landmark resolution 71/243 on the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review of UN operational activities for development.

Ambassador Al Zaabi added that this course marks the culmination of a long process of strengthening the concept of global knowledge and that knowledge management remains a challenge to the United Nations system while expressing the belief that people with access to information and education are more qualified to make more informed choices.

He also highlighted the publication of the Arab Knowledge Index by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation. The Index monitors the status of knowledge in the Arab world, aiming to develop knowledge and assist various stakeholders in the region to achieve development goals and enable their youth to participate effectively in local and global knowledge exchanges, and overcome current challenges.
