UAE participates in foreign and defence vice-ministerial meeting with Republic of Korea

ABU DHABI, The second round of consultations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Korea was held in Abu Dhabi against the backdrop of the (2+2) meeting.

Heading the UAE side was Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs, and Matar Al Dhaheri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence. The Republic of Korea was represented by Yoon Sun-gu, Deputy Minister of Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Park Jae-Min, Vice Minister of National Defence.

The UAE extended sincere congratulations to the government and people of the Republic of Korea on the occasion of National Foundation Day.

The two countries discussed ways of bolstering cooperation and friendship in light of the special strategic partnership. They also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common concern.

On the bilateral level, the two sides reviewed ways of developing cooperation in the field of aviation, increasing reciprocal support in nominations within international organisations, and conducting high-level visits between the UAE and the Republic of Korea.

On defence issues, the two sides praised the level of defense cooperation between the two friendly countries. They also reviewed threats to freedom of maritime navigation in the Arabian Gulf, energy supplies, and international energy routes.

Next year, the two sides will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between the UAE and the Republic of Korea, which have been elevated to a special strategic partnership.
