UAE-Egypt ties something to be proud of: paper

ABU DHABI, 24th April, 2016 (WAM) — A UAE newspaper has commended the UAE’s move to pledge $4 billion in support of Egypt.

“The benevolent act follows the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and orders of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces,” said The Gulf Today in an editorial on Sunday.

It continued, “It also stems from the UAE’s firm stand in support of Egypt and its people to promote the reconstruction and development process, as well as in recognition of the pivotal role of Egypt in the region.

“Sheikh Mohamed reiterated the UAE’s support to Egypt and its people, to achieve their aspirations with regard to stability and development. Egypt is a pillar of stability and a safety valve for the region given its strategic and security weight, and its leading role in the region. The destiny of Arabs is linked to that of Egypt.

The paper quoted Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, as saying, “Egypt is the mother of Arab nations and an oasis of Arab culture, where they stem culture, sciences, journalism and art. Therefore their destiny is tied to that of Egypt.”

“The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan had taught Emiratis that Egypt is the house of the Arab world and that they have to support it in all circumstances. The UAE leaders follow the legacy outlined by Sheikh Zayed,” added the daily.

Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State has underlined that the ties between the UAE and Egypt are deep-rooted.

Co-operation with the Egyptian government will continue to complement the future roadmap that aims to restore stability in Egypt and exercise its significant role in the Middle East.

The UAE-Egyptian relations are very strong in all political, economic, social and cultural areas.

It is notable that at a time when instability is rocking the region, ties between the two nations are rock solid. This is something which both the Emiratis and Egyptians appreciate.

“The shared happiness between the two nations augurs well for generations to come. The effort by the leaders of the two sides is heartening and must continue in one form or the other,” concluded the Sharjah-based daily.
