Supreme Legislation Committee holds workshop in support of 2017 #Year of Giving

DUBAI, 8th January, 2017 (WAM) — The Supreme Legislation Committee, SLC, has recently organised a highly interactive workshop aimed at identifying key strategies, standards and guidelines that can be used to help in the implementation of initiatives complementing 2017’s as the ‘Year of Giving,’ which was announced by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and is based on three main virtues of social responsibility, volunteering and serving the country.

The workshop was an important interactive platform to generate creative ideas that SLC can use in contributing to efforts to reinforce the culture of social responsibility and consolidating the leadership of Dubai and the UAE as a leading model of charitable and philanthropic giving, both regionally and globally.

Ahmad bin Meshar Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of SLC, said that the declaration of 2017 as the ‘Year of Giving’ is derived from the wise leadership’s commitment to follow the value of sharing and giving, which was instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to become the foundation of a solid union that represents the aspirations of the UAE people to build a society based on strength and a bright future marked with justice.

Al Muhairi stressed the SLC’s commitment to supporting national efforts in consolidating the concept of giving as a general social trend with an aim to make a real difference in the lives of UAE people and communities, in line with the vision and guidance of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Mohammed said, “Real giving lies in making a difference in another person’s life, or the life of a community, or in the journey of a nation”.

The agenda of the workshop also included a review of a series of strategic proposals that enable government organisations to make a positive impact in the efforts to promote giving. The proposals covered the launch of leading initiatives, strengthening the culture of volunteerism among young people and society as a whole, providing opportunities and partnerships with the private sector, simplifying the rules and procedures for anyone and rewarding and encouraging individuals to make a positive difference in the UAE.
