Ruler of Sharjah receives poets from Bahrain, Yemen

SHARJAH, 21st October, 2015 (WAM) – H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, this afternoon received two delegations of poets from the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Yemen, at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre for Gulf Studies (Dara).

Welcoming them to Sharjah, Capital of Arabic and Islamic Culture, he stressed the role being played by the Emirate in promoting inter-Arab interaction to create capable, innovative and talented Arab generations.

Sheikh Sultan cited that the Arab cultural and literary festivals organised by Sharjah have so far contributed significantly to the production of great literary works. He added that Sharjah sponsors the translation of these works into other languages to introduce Arab talent and culture to the world through international book fairs.

For their part, the poets thanked Sheikh Sultan for his unlimited support to Arab culture and literature, as well as his sponsorship of popular poetry.

Abdullah Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah, Ambassador Mohammed Saleh Al Qutaish, Consul General of Yemen, Rashid Sharar, Director of the Sharjah Popular Poetry Centre, and Mohammed Hassan Baqer, Head of Bahraini Poets delegation were also present.
