OIC Secretary-General condemns explosion in Istanbul

ISTANBUL, 13th January, 2016 (WAM) — The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, Iyad Ameen Madani, has condemned the deadly explosion detonated yesterday in the Sultanahmet District of Istanbul that resulted in the killing of at least 10 people and wounding scores of others, describing it as ‘an act of terror’.

According to the OIC website, the Secretary-General expressed his confidence that the perpetrators of such senseless brutality will be found, tried and persecuted for their crimes.

Mr. Madani extended his condolences to the government and people of the Republic of Turkey as well as to the families of the victims over this tragedy and declared the support of the OIC for the efforts of the Turkish government in its efforts in fighting terrorism.

He reiterated the principled position of the OIC that vigorously denounces all acts of terrorism and violent extremism in all forms and manifestations, just as it categorically rejects any justifications for terrorism.
