Hamdan bin Zayed chairs Emirates Red Crescent's board meeting

ABU DHABI, 22nd March, 2016 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and President of the Emirates Red Crescent, today chaired the first meeting of the humanitarian agency’s board of directors for this year.

During the meeting at Al Nakheel Palace, Sheikh Hamdan praised President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for supporting the country’s humanitarian major.

He said the wise leadership has established the foundations of philanthropy and was largely devoted to humanitarian work. The leadership’s approach to humanitarian issues was ideal, he added.

Sheikh Hamdan stressed that the Emirates Red Crescent will spare no effort to achieve its humanitarian goals and ambitions by expanding its outreach.

He also praised donors and philanthropists for supporting the agency.

He said the Emirates Red Crescent’s excellence and humanitarian leadership will be a driver for raising the quality of its performance.

He issued directives to adopt initiatives that can support the agency’s efforts inside the UAE.

Sheikh Hamdan also urged the agency’s board to develop plans and strategies to back the agency’s humanitarian response capability and expand the scope of humanitarian work at home, regionally and internationally.

During the meeting, the board of the Emirates Red Crescent discussed a number of issues to enhance the agency’s work and expand the outreach of its relief and humanitarian operations and development projects.

They also approved a proposal to increase the number of the Emirates Red Crescent offices in the Western Region.

Secretary-General of the Emirates Red Crescent, Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, presented a report about the agency’s efforts in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region and Socotra in Yemen.
