Sharjah Media Corporation to participate in National Media Council's “Walk to Give” initiative

SHARJAH, 16th March, 2017 (WAM) — As part of its mission to promote a culture of generosity, selflessness and serving the nation, Sharjah Media Corporation, SMC, is taking part in Friday’s “Walk to Give” initiative, launched by the National Media Council, NMC.

The SMC’s participation in the walk is in line with President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s declaration of 2017 being the #Year of Giving, and also with SMC’s commitment to the community and its goal to encourage its staff to embrace the values of giving and self-sacrifice.

Through its participation in the Walk to Give, SMC continues to support the national goals of the UAE Vision 2021, which highlight its deep-rooted values of providing meaningful and valuable media content.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of SMC, said, “The UAE exemplifies the human values of generosity of spirit, selflessness and philanthropy. This rally is the culmination of several initiatives which symbolise the noble values that position the UAE at the forefront of countries to ensure the wellbeing and happiness of its citizens.”

He added, “Our participation illustrates our commitment to implementing the directives of our wise leadership and our dedication in supporting community development and promoting the values of good and giving.”

Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director-General of SMC, said, “This initiative, launched by the National Media Council, is an ideal opportunity to instill the values of giving and volunteering in our staff and also to raise their awareness about SMC’s message of goodwill across different regions.”

Khalaf added, “SMC will cover the activities of the Walk to Give rally via its TV and radio channels, social networking platforms and its website, in collaboration with local media bodies.”

The Year of Giving, launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa focuses on three major themes: social responsibility, volunteering and serving the nation. The declaration of the Year of Giving stands as a true example of the UAE’s vision and culture of giving and benevolence based on its Arab and Islamic identity as well as on the approach laid down by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Following the launch of the initiative, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, issued instructions for developing an overall framework to activate the Year of Giving by identifying objectives, formulating initiatives and programmes and laying down strategies that aim to systematise philanthropic and humanitarian work in the UAE.
