ABU DHABI, 31st January, 2017 (WAM)–H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has stressed that support enjoyed by the ERC programmes and projects from the UAE leadership put it in a leading position among humanitarian organisations around the world.
He hailed the support of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and follow-up of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to the humanitarian work.
He cited the initiative announced by the UAE President to make 2017 the Year of Giving, and being followed by the Vice President, would enhance the ERC efforts locally and abroad.
Sheikh Hamdan made the remarks while chairing the first ERC board meeting this year at Al Nakheel Palace. He added that the ERC has embarked on setting plans and strategies, as well as adopt initiatives that meet the humanitarian objectives, notably strengthening the social responsibility, volunteerism and service of the country, as well as meet the aspirations of the wise leadership in promoting the charity work in the country.
He conveyed the regards of the leadership to the board members in light of the leading role played by the ERC in the developmental, humanitarian fields, relief aid and sheltering the displaced persons in areas of conflicts and disasters.
Sheikh Hamdan referred to the efforts of the ERC in a number of conflict zones such as in in Yemen and neighbouring states to Syria, which host millions of Syrian refugees.
