AJMAN, 31st January, 2017 (WAM) — A group of poets have founded the “UAE Poets’ association “, the first association of its kind in the UAE, which aims to preserve the nation’s poetic heritage and refine poetic talents.
It also aims to establish a unique approach to writing poetry, based on local UAE dialects, to develop a new generation of poets that can set the standards for future writers.
According to poet Ali bin Mohamed Al Soraidi, Head of the UAE Poets’ association, the association was officially incorporated in Fujairah in 2016 by the Ministry of Community Development, under Article 166 of Resolution 545. It was founded by 33 local poets who are currently working on the association’s official launch.
Al Soraidi stressed the importance of establishing such an association and the need to form a collective forum for all the nation’s poets from different nationalities and age groups.
He also called on all talented poets to join the association, and hoped that it would become a platform to unite the nation.
