ABU DHABI, 30th January, 2017 (WAM) — The UAE has shown leadership and excellence in humanitarian work, and proved its ability to find alternatives and solutions to reduce the suffering of people and promote human development, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC.
He highlighted the declaration made by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed that 2017 would be the Year of Giving, and the directives of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, that a Goodness Retreat be held to signal a new phase of the UAE’s initiatives, setting a strategic framework for the country’s humanitarian efforts and charity.
On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the establishment of the ERC, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed said the state had set a unique methodology to confront the humanitarian implications of catastrophes and crises, thanks to the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who was instrumental in promoting international and regional humanitarian work.
The UAE’s strength is derived from the unique methodology set by its leadership that considers “giving” a top priority, setting an example by addressing humanitarian issues, he noted.
He highlighted the keenness of the ERC to preserve its achievements since its establishment on 31st January, 1983, and promote future efforts, to enlarge the scope of the beneficiaries of its humanitarian services, and start an advanced phase in the field of comprehensive development to empower vulnerable categories of people inside and outside the country.
