ABU DHABI, 29th January, 2017 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President’s Representative and Chairman of the Emirates Heritage Club (EHC), attended the Sultan bin Zayed Heritage Festival 2017 at the Sweihan camel racing track on Sunday.
The two week festival, in its 11th running year, is jointly organised by the EHC and Sultan Bin Zayed’s Cultural and Media Centre (CMC).
It features traditional camel races, horse riding, camel beauty contests, handicrafts and traditional markets, a Saluki race, and an array of cultural and heritage activities.
The festival is a tribute to the forefathers who made significant efforts to keep the indigenous heritage, tradition, culture and history alive, and pass down the torch to the new generations, said Senan Al Rumaithi, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee.
”The Festival has become a beacon for preserving and safeguarding the UAE’s rich heritage,” he added.
Sheikh Sultan watched a demonstration of traditional bedouin survival techniques, that included searching for water and pastures in the desert.
A group of ambassadors to the UAE who attended the opening ceremony, said that the event contributed valuable knowledge about the nation’s culture.
Also in attendance were a number of senior UAE officials.
Sheikh Sultan later crowned the winners of the camel beauty contest and camel races.
