KU Professor awarded Honorary Doctorate by Institut National des Sciences Appliques

ABU DHABI, 2nd January, 2017 (WAM) — Dr. Ernesto Damiani, Director of Khalifa University’s Information Security Research Centre, ISRC, and Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has recently been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Institut National des Sciences Appliques, INSA, in France for his contributions to science and technology pertaining to the analysis of large amounts of data, known as ‘Big Data’.

The award was issued by INSA and was approved and recognised by the French Minister of Universities and the French Minister of Foreign Affairs. It was given to Dr. Damiani recently during a ceremony in Lyon, France.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Damiani said, “I am proud to receive this honour from a prestigious French institution like the INSA. This award recognises not only my research, but also the talent and hard work of the excellent research teams I have worked with both in Europe and the UAE. Hopefully this accolade will inspire young scientists and engineers to aim for excellence in their future careers.”

Dr. Tod Laursen, President of Khalifa University, said, “We are very pleased to see Dr. Damiani recognised for his hard work and research accomplishments. His commitment to helping those in developing countries and his innovative use of technology to accomplish this is truly inspiring, both to his students and fellow faculty. As the director of ISRC, he is continuously responsible for encouraging our students and researchers to explore a wide range of issues in the area of Information Security, which is an area of prime concern for the UAE and much of the world.”
