Second phase of 'Peace Libraries'' launched in Dubai

DUBAI, 3rd September, 2016 (WAM) — The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace, in partnership with PAUL Arabia Bakery & Restaurant, has launched the second phase of its initiative, “Peace Libraries.”

Launched in line with the declaration of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, of 2016 as the year of reading, it comes as part of the efforts to promote Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace.

The initiative, “Peace Libraries,” places small libraries in the residential complexes, based on the idea of ‘take a book and leave another book’ for a cultural exchange through reading. PAUL Arabia is supporting the initiative by giving to the kids free meal or mini macarons’ box for anyone who donates one book at its outlets in PAUL Mercato, JBR, City Walk and Arabian Ranches.

Ahmed Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the award, said the purpose is to allow as many people as possible to read these books and thus promote cultural diversity and social harmony.

The reading programme was launched last Ramadan along with another initiative, “Pulpits of Peace Readers,” which relies on mobile electronic platforms. The visitors will be able to read a book’s summary and to select books. Also they will be able to get a print out of important notes based on their selection.

Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace strives to promote and honour the contributions to world peace through creative initiatives based on Islamic and humanitarian values. It also aims to facilitate communication among people around the world, thus promoting international relations and peace.
