DUBAI, 8th February, 2016 (WAM) — Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) and President of Zayed University, has received Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank Group and his accompanying delegation, at the university’s branch in Dubai.
Dr. Riad Abdul Latif Al Muhaidib, Vice-President of Zayed University, attended the meeting.
Sheikha Lubna held an expanded discussion session with the international official at the Zayed University and Convention Centre, which was attended by members of the university’s higher administration, deans of colleges and students. The discussion was moderated by Maya Raydan, Business Presenter at Sky News Arabia.
In her welcoming note, Sheikha Lubna praised the efforts exerted by World Bank to fight poverty, develop appropriate policies and improve peoples’ living standards through supporting overall and sustainable development.
Addressing Kim, Sheikha Lubna said, ”Your visit to the Zayed University represents a unique opportunity for our students to encourage and exchange ideas with them on how to work together for a better future, especially for the youth.”
She added, ”Our students are enthusiastic to achieve better understanding of the mission of the World Bank and the nature of its job as well as its pioneering experts in the development field.”
During his interview in the course of the discussion session, President of the World Bank Group hailed the UAE’s successful economic and educational development which represents a role model in the Arab World and the Middle East.
He also reviewed the reasons behind the establishment of the World bank as well as its history.
