Sharjah Popular Poetry Festival to kick off on Monday

SHARJAH, 31st January, 2016 (WAM) — The 12th edition of the Sharjah Popular Poetry Festival will start on Monday under the patronage and in the presence of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

Organised by the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information at the Sharjah Cultural Palace, the festival will be held under the theme, ”Popular Poetry: Conscience and Message.” The event, which will conclude on February 7th, will include a number of events and forums. The event will witness the participation of 42 poets from the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, Kuwait, Egypt, Mauritania, Algeria, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq and Jordan.

Abdullah Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information, and Rashid Sharar, Director of the Sharjah Popular Poetry Centre, will address the opening ceremony.

A documentary showing creative, intellectual and poetic life of the honourees will be screened at the event.
