ADDIS ABABA, 29th January, 2016 (WAM)–Ghazi Abdullah Salem Al Mahri, the UAE Ambassador to Ethiopia, has attended the 28th ordinary session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council, held at the new AU conference centre in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
The event was attended by the foreign ministers of 54 countries, member states of the AU, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, representatives of international and regional organisations and civil society organizations’ representatives, media and others.
The Council discussed over two days, a number of pressing issues, notably, the election the African Commission Chairperson/Chairman, political and economic issues in a number of African countries, as well as the security situation in Somalia, South Sudan, Burundi and the counter-terrorism.
The ministerial meeting was held in preparation for the 26th session of the African Union Summit to be hosted by Addis Ababa from 30th – 31st January. It will be attended by heads of African states and governments as well as a number of guests of honour, led by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and a number of international officials.
