DUBAI, 26th January, 2016 (WAM) — Dubai Customs today celebrated International Customs Day at its headquarters. The World Customs Organisation, WCO, is dedicating International Customs Day 2016 to promoting the digitalisation of the customs process.
Celebrating the International Customs Day coincides with the 1st Dubai Customs Week, which is running from January 24th to 28th under the slogan, “Dubai Customs: A World of Digital Innovations”. The attendees watched a short film on the inception and role of the WCO.
Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, said that International Customs Day 2016 presents the opportunity to customs administrations around the world to showcase and further promote their use of Information and Communication Technologies.
In his speech, Musabih spoke about the history of the WCO, which was established in 1952 as an independent inter-governmental body whose mission is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of customs administrations. The UAE became a member of the WCO in 1973.
