DUBAI, 15th January, 2016 (WAM) — Influential literary personality, Isobel Abulhoul, OBE, will be speaking at the Capital Club, Dubai’s Premier Private City Club and member of the ENSHAA group of companies on Thursday, 17th of January.
The event, which will run from 6:30 – 8:30pm, is part of the Club’s ‘People Who Shaped Dubai Series,’ a speaker series focussed on those who had part in building the foundations of the city.
Born and raised in Cambridge, Isobel Abulhoul came to Dubai in 1968. Throughout her time in the Emirates, she has had a huge impact on the development of the literary scene, an influence which began with the launch of Magrudy’s Bookshop chain in 1975.
In 2008, Abulhoul founded – and remains the Director of – the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, the Middle East’s largest celebration of the written and spoken word. During her Capital Club Dubai talk, she will discuss the genesis and development of this highly influential festival, the next installment of which will take place from 1 – 12 March at the InterContinental Hotel, Festival City.
Throughout her prolific career, Abulhoul has received countless commendations, including being awarded the Cultural Personality of the Year by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah in 2010, and an OBE by HM Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain in 2012.
