Sheikh Zayed Mosque Hosts Iftar for 340,000 people

WAM ABU DHABI, 1st August, 2013 (WAM) — The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre in Abu Dhabi has hosted a total of 340,000 fasting persons for their Iftar meals in the second and third weeks of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

This initiative is part of Iftar Saaim (Serving Iftar to a fasting person) scheme, which has been held every year for the departed soul of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The number of Iftar meals which are provided by the centre every day through the is estimated to be between 21,000 and 24,000, which are served to the faithful in air-conditioned tents set up in the compounds of the mosque with separate tent for serving Iftar to women and families.

The centre has formed a number of committees comprising its employees and volunteers to serve the fasting visitors.

Meanwhile, as many as 131,000 worshippers had performed Taraveeh prayer in the same period (second and third weeks of Ramadan), while 31,000 offered Tahajjud (night prayer) in the first two days of the last ten days of the Holy Month.
