GCC condemns Houthis' attempted missile attack on Makkah

RIYADH, 28th October, 2016 (WAM) — The Co-operation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) has strongly condemned the Yemeni Houthi-Saleh group’s attempt to target Makkah city, home to the most sacred sites in Islam, including the Grand Mosque, with a ballistic missile on Thursday.

“The GCC members consider this flagrant attack a brazen breach of the sanctity of the place of the Divine Revelation and the Qiblah for 1.5 billion Muslims in the world, and as a provocation of the feelings of all Muslims and a disrespect of the sanctity of Islamic holy places,” Secretary-General of the GCC Dr. Abdullatif Al Zayani said in a statement.

“This assault is undisputed evidence that the Houthi-Saleh group have gone too far in their violations and their rejection to comply with the will of the international community and its resolutions for a truce as well as the persistent efforts being made to reach a political solution to the crisis in Yemen,” Al Zayani added.
