Environment Minister issues ordinances setting up new squads General August 8, 20120 Dubai: Minister of Environment and Water Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahd has issued a number of ordinances setting up various squads to work to achieve the ministry’s goal for ensuring a sustainable environment. The local bodies working in the field of environment in various emirates will be members in these groups. One of the squads to be headed by Ibrahim Al-Dhanhani will develop plans to respond to environmental emergencies. A second squad to be headed by Aisha Al-Adidi will be tasked with evolving plans for environmental education and awareness creation. Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry Mohammed Obeid Al-Zaabi will head a third squad which will be tasked with revising the environmental laws and federal legislations and recommending necessary amendments. A forth squad to be headed by Dr. Shaikha Al Dhahiri will work in the area of biodiversity and will be tasked with reviewing the current procedures and recommending future policies for protecting biodiversity and combating desertification. Abdullah Yaqub Al-Shaer will head a fifth squad, which will be responsible for preparing national statistics on environment. One of the ordinances also set up a sixth squad, which will be headed by Sheikha Al Hosni and will be responsible for recommending policies and plans for the management of the air quality. Ahmed Mohammed Al Jasmi will head the waste and hazardous materials management squad and will propose policies and plans in this area.
