ABU DHABI, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, commended efforts by Qiyadiyat, Abu Dhabi’s first Emirati female leadership platform, for creating the favourable environment through which Emirati and Arab women can take leadership positions and roles and contribute positively to the development of their local communities.
Qiyadiyat (meaning “female leaders” in Arabic), was set up in 2013 by a group of three friends in management positions to develop, inspire and provide networking opportunities for working women in the local community as Abu Dhabi’s first Emirati female leadership platform.
”I am fully confident that women in our communities are capable of delivering objectives and goals they set for themselves; they are up to what the community expected them to do, including dreams and aspirations,” Sheikh Nahyan told a seminar organised by the group in Abu Dhabi in the presence of Souad Yousef, Bodour Al Tamimi and Laila Al Hassan, co-founders of Qiyadiyat, and 35 other women leaders from 30 government and private entities.
The UAE leadership, he said, is following in the footsteps of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed, in empowering women to play their pivotal role in the nation’s inclusive development.
Sheikh Nahyan urged the Qiyadiyat group to take H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), as an inspirational example for their action to empower and develop women’s leadership skills.
Sheikh Nahyan also spoke about the leadership qualities and skills of Sheikh Zayed, including his far-sighted vision; generosity and compassion; diligent adaptation to rapid transformation; caring for the environment; cooperation and joint, collective work; good management of natural resources; development of human resources, and tolerance, peace and stability.
”I urge you to learn from Sheikh Zayed’s leadership school and to role models in commitment to his legacy and enduring principles,” Sheikh Nahyan addressed the women leaders.
To be leaders in the future, he advised them to formulate a clear vision, to enjoy patience, perseverance, responsibility, initiative-taking and continuity, and to have the ability to learn continuously, so as to explore new ideas, and finally, have the courage to take tough decisions and show a commitment towards strategic goals and values.
