RABAT, � Second Deputy Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council Abdul Aziz Al Zaabi has called for the establishment of an Arab Parliamentary Commission, comprising parliamentary presidents, to draft an ‘Arab Parliamentary Strategy’ to address current challenges in the region.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the UAE Parliamentary Division, at the opening session of the 24th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, AIPU, Al Zaabi said that the proposed strategy will focus on the role of Arab parliaments in fulfilling the aspiration of Arab citizens while addressing challenges such as terrorism, extremism, foreign interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries, and the role of Arab parliaments in addressing various crises in Syria, Libya and Yemen.
The Second Deputy Speaker highlighted the Year of Giving initiative, the role of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the UAE leadership in protecting human values as examples reflecting various principles that such a strategy could be based upon.
The UAE delegation consisted of Ahmed Yousuf Al Nuaimi, Ahmed Mohamed Al Hammodi, Salem Abdullah Al Shamsi, Khalfan Abdullah bin Youkha, and Naema Abdullah Al Sharhan, all members of the FNC.
FNC member Ali Jassem Ahmed, also participated in the conference to receive the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award in the “Parliament Member” category.
