ENOC partners with Emirates Environmental Group to promote environmental education

DUBAI, 27th January, 2016 (WAM) – Emirates National Oil Company, ENOC, a wholly-owned entity of the Government of Dubai, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with Emirates Environmental Group, EEG, to promote environmental education in the UAE.

The MoU comes in line with ENOC’s commitment to support sustainability initiatives, to play an active role as an organisation which is committed to social development of the UAE and building the next generation. It was signed by Dr. Waddah Shihab Ghanem, Executive Director, EHSSQ and Corporate Affairs at ENOC, and Habiba Al Marashi, Co-Founder and Chairperson of EEG, at the ENOC Head Offices in Oud Metha.

This renewed collaboration positions ENOC as EEG’s strategic educational partner, and main sponsor of the Inter-School Environmental Public Speaking Competition and the Inter-College Environmental Public Speaking Competition, as well as the Annual Student Workshops programme. ENOC’s continued efforts with EEG underline its commitment to education as a key pillar of the company’s corporate social responsibility strategy. ENOC has been working as a Group and through the various subsidiaries with EEG for more than a decade, participating in many initiatives and events, and the MoU further solidifies and institutionalises the relationship between the two organisations.

Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO, ENOC, said, “We are pleased to renew our collaboration with EEG, who have been well recognised for their work towards protecting the environment through educational activities and encouraging the involvement of the local community.”

“Our focus to raise awareness on environmental education falls in line with the goals of our visionary leaders that aim to build a culture of education, innovation and creativity. We firmly believe that education plays a pivotal role in contributing to the country’s prosperity, and our partnership with EEG provides an opportunity to deliver on that belief.”

As a non-governmental professional working group, EEG has been at the forefront of environmental protection through the means of education, action programmes and community involvement, and has contributed greatly to the advancement of sustainable development in Dubai and the UAE.

Al Marashi added, “Over the past year, ENOC has been a strong supporter of our organisation and it is with great pleasure that we are partnering on educational programmes with them. The company has placed a strong emphasis on environmental conservation and sustainable development. Its continuous support towards raising awareness of the importance of sustainable development aligns with the core values of EEG. We are confident that our partnership will have a positive impact on the UAE community.”

ENOC has partnered with EEG over the past year across different CSR initiatives such as the ‘Clean Up UAE’ campaign, in order to raise awareness of environmental sustainability. With both organisations having a common cause of raising environmental standards in the UAE, the new partnership will further boost the synergy between the two entities in 2016.
