Embassy of The Republic of Fiji Opens in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: Minister of State Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemy and Fijian Prime Minister Commodore J V Bainimarama attended today opening of Embassy of the Republic of Fiji in Abu Dhabi.

The opening ceremony was also attended by a number of Foreign Ministry officials, senior officials and members of the diplomatic missions accredited in the UAE.

In her speech, Al Hashemy praised the progressive ties between the UAE and Fiji in all fields, thanks to the keen support of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“I am pleased to convey greetings of UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Congratulations on opening Fiji’s embassy in the UAE, which is a key step to furthering relations between the two countries,” she added.

Bainimarama said the opening of Fiji’s Embassy today in Abu Dhabi is symbolic of his Government’s commitment to be vigorously engaged with the international community.

“Our joining of the Non-Aligned Movement and our ‘Look North Plus Policy’ forms part of this overall strategy. It is this new vibrant foreign policy of ours that sees Fiji opening representation in this very exciting part of the world. This is our first resident Mission in the Arab world” he said.

Robin Nair, Fijian Ambassador to the UAE said: “I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Government of the United Arab Emirates, for welcoming this move on the part of our Government to open a resident mission here and the strong support that they have given the Fiji Government and me, personally, as the first Ambassador, to help establish this Mission.”
