Overseas students on Al-Maktoum College education programme receive welcome from Lord Provost

DUNDEE, The Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education welcomes overseas students on to its 27th educational programme.

A total of 63 female students travelling from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Malaysia have joined the College to study on its prestigious Academic Training Programme.

The students were officially welcomed to the city by Dundee’s Lord Provost during a trip to Dundee City Chambers.

“You are all very welcome here and I hope that you enjoy your stay and time on the programme, and indeed enjoy the city of Dundee” said Lord Provost Ian Borthwick.

Students engaged in conversation with the Lord Provost before presenting him with gifts from their home places of study, as a goodwill gesture.

The Academic Training programme was established back in 2003 and is designed to broaden students’ academic horizons, preparing them for future careers within international leadership and managerial positions.

Over the course of 4 weeks, students will attend lecturers and seminars within the College, on topics related to multiculturalism, leadership and international politics.

Students become residents of Dundee during their studies and will also benefit from excursions to various locations across Scotland, as well as a final trip to London.

“This programme is in high demand because it is both stimulating and demanding in educational and cultural terms” said Dr Abi Abubaker, acting Head of College.

“Thank you very much for your kind welcome Lord Provost. It is always a pleasure to bring groups of our students here to the City Chambers. We are extremely grateful for your support over the years and we hope that the student time here will be a memorable one for all.”
