At PSUAD graduation ceremony, Nahyan bin Mubarak vehemently condemns Paris attacks, thanks Khalifa, Mohammed bin Zayed for supporting the university

ABU DHABI, 16th November, 2015 (WAM) – Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, has condemned in the strongest possible terms the heinous and senseless serial terrorist crimes against humanity which took place in Paris last Friday.

”We strongly condemn this inhuman, horrible, sinful and cowardly terrorism whose perpetrators have lost any sense of humanity and have committed acts of evil and corruption on the earth without any ethical or religious deterrence. Those terrorists kill innocent people with an evil motive and out of a sense of feud and hatred of life and lives. We were dismayed by the sad, shocking news of terrorising innocent people, loss of life and spreading of violence and hatred. This is definitely a criminal, dangerous and despicable act by all standards,” Sheikh Nahyan said in his keynote address at an event marking the graduation of the sixth batch of Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (PSUAD) today.

The audience, comprising faculty members and staff, guardians of graduates, and guests, observed a moment of silence as a sign of mourning and respect for the victims of the shocking and horrible multiple attacks in Paris, which Sheikh Nahyan said had ‘gripped our sentiments in the UAE’.

”The only way to deter and defeat such terrorist acts is for the world to stand united against this deviant, tyrant group which knows no religion or virtue and has turned into an arch enemy not only of the whole humanity but also of life itself. It is necessary to confront them and disrupt their plans by all available means and tools.

”We are deeply sorry and gripped with grief at this turn of events and we in the UAE stand united with the great French people of civilisation and glory. We mourn those who have lost their lives and pray for patience and solace for their families. We wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We also pray that Paris always remains the city of light, civilisation, peaceful co-existence, tolerance, hope, openness and motivating spirit, and spare friendly France all harm and risks now and in the future, and for it to remain the country of love, fraternity, liberty and peace,” Sheikh Nahyan said.

”While vehemently condemning terrorism that surfaced with its ugly face in Paris, we are proud through our celebration today that the PSUAD embodies what friendly France stands for from noble values to sublime principles. It is a university that represents an unparalleled model of a world university that promotes education as a key instrument for positive interaction between cultures and civilisations; a university that seeks to build that interaction on solid grounds of collaboration, optimism, hope, rejection of suspicion, fear and misunderstanding; a world university that strives to deepen co-existence and understanding between nations and peoples and to work with all for an enlightened world where peace, prosperity and stability prevail for the best interest and welfare of the whole humanity,” Sheikh Nahyan added.

He noted that the university took the lead in achieving the best world standards in higher education, providing its students with a rich, open, multicultural, plural learning environment. Based on principles of self-pride, diligent work and sound thinking, the PSUAD builds students’ skills and capacities to interact and communicate with peers across boundaries and cultures.

”You should always be proud of your university which consistently seeks to prepare you to be active contributors to the development of your communities and at the same time be mindful of your future role, keeping pace with the latest developments in the surrounding ambience and how to address and deal with challenges cleverly,” Sheikh Nahyan said, addressing the graduates.

”The annual graduation ceremony provides a fitting opportunity to express our deep pride and love for the leadership, government and people of the UAE. We also seize this opportunity to express on behalf of all of you our profound thanks and gratitude to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his wise vision for education and his key and vital role in building relations of cooperation, understanding and a shared planet with other countries of the world,” Sheikh Nahyan went on to say.

“Deep thanks also go to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Education Council, for his tireless efforts to position the UAE among the ranks of leading and advanced nations of the world. We also much appreciate his commitment to accord top priority to grooming a generation of qualified, responsible youth capable of fulfilling obligations assigned to and expected from them.” Congratulating the sixth batch, comprising 261 male and female graduates hailing from 40 nationalities, Sheikh Nahyan told them, ”Graduation day is a start of a new chapter in your life towards a future career. We hope that every one of you will be a source of pride for this university and for the noble values and great ambitions it stands for and you will be a model of good citizenship and a role model for distinguished performance and good conduct.”
