The media office of the Parliament Speaker said in a statement: “The meeting dealt with the relations between Iraq and the countries of the European Union, and a number of issues of common interest, including what is related to the economy, investment, the file of the displaced and human rights, as well as the latest regional and international developments.” Al-Halbousi stressed, during the meeting, Iraq’s openness to its friends in the world, noting that this approach is shared by the legislative and executive authorities, which reflects positively on all levels, including the political and economic ones, which are among the government’s priorities during this stage. He also stressed the need for intensive efforts and cooperation with Iraq’s friends to treat the file of the displaced and close it permanently. For their part, the Ambassadors of the European Union countries praised the escalating positive path in developing relations between Iraq and the European Union, pointing to the importance of cooperation between the European Union Parliament and the Iraqi Parliament and activating the work of joint committees.
