Abducted former Afghan governor recovered from Mardan

ISLAMABAD, 26th February, 2016 (WAM) — Former Afghan governor of Kunar and Heart provinces Fazlullah Wahidi was freed from Mardan city, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province on Friday after an encounter by the local police.

He was abducted two weeks ago from Islamabad . The Governor was recovered when the kidnappers tried to move him to Mardan and were stopped by the police at a checkpoint.

Upon arrival to the Afghan consulate in Peshawar, he said unknown persons grabbed him from Islamabad.

Afghan Diplomat confirmed Wahidi was handed over to the Consulate early Friday and said he is healthy.

Local police in Mardan said Investigators were clueless about the identity of the abductors and the reason behind the politician’s abduction.
