Sarah Al Amiri visits Serbia to discuss cooperation in R;D, innovation and sustainability

Belgrade,19th March, 2023 (WAM) — Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, discussed during an official visit to the Republic of Serbia ways to enhance cooperation between the two nations. During her visit, Al Amiri discussed cooperation in areas such as research and development (RandD), advanced technology, sustainability, food technology, developing tools to finance research, innovation, energy transition, and developing legislations to help accelerate the growth of technology globally. Discussions also covered ways of ensuring these legislations are up-to-date with rapid technological development as well as the importance of adopting advanced technology in industry to boost competitiveness. She also discussed opportunities to strengthen the education system and vocational schools to provide students with practical skills to enhance their competitiveness and equip them for jobs in industry. In Belgrade, Al Amiri met with Jelena Begovi, Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of Serbia; Branko Ruzi, Minister of Education of Serbia; Milica Djuric-Jovicic, Director of the Science Fund of Serbia; Professor Vladimir Kostic, President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts; and Ivan Rakonjac, Director of the Innovation Fund. l Amiri was accompanied by Mubarak Saeed Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Serbia. Ali Al Hashimi, Director of Science and Technology Policies and Programmes at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Amal Al Hammadi, Head of Programme Management at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, also joined the UAE delegation. Delegates explored funding opportunities in the field of research, development and innovation, in addition to the development of financing programmes and tools for research. These opportunities are designed to support the exchange of knowledge and strengthen relations in the field of RandD. The visit is in line with the objectives of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Serbia, which aims to facilitate cooperation and investment to support mutual economic development and national competitiveness. l Amiri said, “In line with our leadership’s vision, Emirati-Serbian relations are continually developing, and we are cooperating in vital sectors, such as science and technology, research and development, food security, agricultural technology, renewable and sustainable energy, as well as financing for each of these areas, which are critical to the UAE’s national vision for the future. We also discussed several Emirati initiatives including the Technology Transformation Programme and the Industrial Technological Transformation Index. “With the Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, and the Director of the Innovation Fund, I discussed cooperation in the field of RandD, financing, commercialisation, and developing financing tools. In addition, we addressed topics such as pathways for the energy transition and keeping pace with legislation in light of the acceleration of technological development. We also discussed ways to finance RandD, the importance of advanced technology in the development of various industries, and the advancement of food technology.” l Amiri discussed with Director of the Science Fund of Serbia Milica Djuric-Jovicic funding opportunities in the field of research, development and innovation, as well as developing financing tools to support research. She also reveiwed joint research in various priority areas with Professor Vladimir Kostic. UAE-Serbia relations are entering a new phase of growth following the signing of their CEPA, representing a joint endeavour to increase cooperation and investment.

UAE-India investor meeting to be held in Srinagar

NEW DELHI, 19th March, 2023 (WAM) — A UAE-India Investor Meet, comprising meetings between entrepreneurs from various emirates and the Jammu and Kashmir government, business networking and discussions on foreign investment opportunities in the Union Territory, will be held in Srinagar city on 19th March. This was announced by the Department of Industries and Commerce of the Jammu and Kashmir government today. The meeting will be addressed by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, who will unveil his vision of investment and trade initiatives between the Union Territory and the UAE. India has eight Union Territories, which are federally governed, and Jammu and Kashmir has been one of them since October 2019. Sinha will also witness the foundation-laying ceremony of the Mall of Srinagar, which is being built with investment from the UAE. With the exports of apples, saffron, walnuts, vegetables and dry fruits from Jammu and Kashmir to the Gulf picking up since the decline in the COVID-19 Pandemic, private sector investment from the UAE is being channelled into building a food processing and logistics hub in the Union Territory. UAE, China review enhancing joint investment opportunities in new economic sectors

DUBAI, 19th March, 2023 (WAM) — Abdullah Ahmad Al Saleh, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, held a bilateral meeting with Zhang Xiangchen, Deputy International Trade Representative for the People’s Republic of China, on the sidelines of the recently held UAE-China Economic Forum in Dubai. During their meeting, the two sides discussed enhancing joint investment opportunities in new economic sectors, trade, logistical transportation, real estate, financial services, technology and insurance activities. l Saleh stressed that the UAE-China historical ties are based on strategic partnership and cooperation, and have witnessed great development over the past four decades in all fields, especially economic and trade, which serves the two countries’ development direction and supports the growth and sustainability of their economies. “The UAE is China’s first Arab and Gulf trade partner during 2021. China is also the UAE’s first trade partner, as the value of non-oil intra-trade between the two countries amounted to more than AED 264.2 billion (US$72 billion) in 2022, achieving a growth of 18 percent compared to AED 223.8 billion (US$ 61 billion) in 2021,” he said. l Saleh continued, “The mutual investments between the two countries are witnessing continuous growth in various economic and commercial sectors, most notably real estate, logistical transportation, storage, financial services, insurance activities, manufacturing and information technology. Bilateral investments between the UAE and China reached nearly AED 44 billion (US$12 billion) until early In 2021. China is also the third-largest foreign investor in the UAE at the global level, with a balance of foreign direct investments that amounted to US$9.3 billion until the beginning of 2021, and achieved a growth of 514.5 percent compared to the beginning of 2013.” The Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Economy briefed the Chinese side on the economic policies adopted by the UAE to enable and enhance the competitiveness of the investment environment and its growth, including providing incentives and supportive enablers to encourage the private sector to invest and expand in the country’s markets, amending the Commercial Companies Law, which allowed 100 percent foreign ownership, and supporting the increase of labour mobility and modernising residency systems in the country.

Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah receives ministers, high-ranking officials

ADFD supports sustainable initiatives to enhance national industries’ global competitiveness

ABU DABI, 19th March, 2023 (WAM) — A delegation of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and the Abu Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX) visited the headquarters of Mark Cables as part of a series of field visits to national institutions in the country. The purpose of the visit was to expand strategic cooperation with Emirati companies operating in vital sectors, in line with the national strategy to support exports. The delegation was led by Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. It included Rashid Al Kaabi, Director of the Fund’s Investments Department; and Khalil Al Mansoori, Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. The two parties discussed the importance of unifying their efforts, studying opportunities to enhance access to global markets for national goods and products, and examining the advantages of financing provided by ADFD. The goal is to raise Emirati companies’ competitiveness abroad.
